New to the shop for Record Store Day

The list below is a run-down of newly released LPs that will hit our record racks for the first time this Saturday. In the spirit of Record Store Day, these carefully curated albums have been cherry-picked from various parts of the globe with our much-appreciated Wild Honey customers in mind. In other words, here’s some stuff you might not find anywhere else…

Dusty Springfield — Dusty… Definitely
Label: Music On Vinyl (Import – UK)
A good import to grab since this highly regarded 1968 album has never been issued in the United States. Dusty chose which songs she wanted to record on this one.

Lee Hazlewood — The LHI Years: Singles, Nudes, & Backsides (1968-71)
Label: Light In The Attic (USA)
What a cover photo! This double-album pulls together the best solo and duet gems from the songwriting legend’s own Lee Hazlewood Industries. Limited edition.

Kevin Ayers — Joy of a Toy
Label: Vinilisssimo (Import – Spain)
Brilliant British psych-folk by a founding member of Soft Machine (gatefold reissue of the 1969 Harvest Records classic).

Various Artists — Pretty In Pink Original Soundtrack
Label: A&M (USA)
Individually numbered, limited edition LP on pink vinyl (of course) with new wave tracks from the Smiths, INXS, Echo & The Bunnymen, OMD and more.

Various Artists — Wizzz! French Psychedelic 1966-1969 Vol. 1
Label: Born Bad Records (Import – France)
Much-loved compilation of hard-to-find ’60s freak beat rarities (originally released in 2001).

Various Artists — Mondo Hollywood: Original Soundtrack
Label: Reel Time (Import – UK)
This wacko 1967 documentary yielded an excellent Mike Curb-produced collection of hippie rock and garage gems.
CORRECTION: The Mondo Hollywood LP will not be available for purchase until its May 5th street date. Sorry, we just got carried away with all this new stuff!

Gene Clark — No Other
Label: 4 Men With Beards (USA)
High-quality reissue of ex-Byrd Gene Clark’s hard-to-find sixth album.

Grateful Dead — Dark Star: Europe ’72 Olympia Theatre – Paris, France 5/4/72
Label: Rhino (USA)
They’re saying this is the longest version (approximately 40 minutes!) of “Dark Star” from the Dead’s Europe ’72 tour, but how do they remember? Limited Edition 180 gram.

Frank Frost with the Night Hawks — Hey Boss Man!
Label: Doxy (Import – Italy)
Early-sixties electric Delta blues from a harp hero (on 180 gram virgin vinyl with CD version included).

Eddie Hendricks — People…Hold On
Label: Tamla (USA)
A treasure trove of classic, funky grooves with heart. Our own store copy will be in heavy rotation all summer long (great sounding reissue of the ex-Temptation’s 1972 cult classic!)

João Gilberto — self-titled
Label: Klimt (Import – France)
One of the best bossa nova albums of all time. One of the best albums of all time. Put this on and you’ll forget what you were doing. Limited Edition reissue of the 1973 LP.

Small Faces — self-titled
Label: 4 Men With Beards (USA)
Google “Rod Stewart” if you’re not familiar. Heavy-duty gatefold 180 gram reissue.

Emily — self-titled
Label: Kismet (Import – UK)
Cool reissue of a 1972 psych-folk obscurity (recorded in Paris by a 16-year-old New Yorker!).

Musette — Drape Me In Velvet
Label: Häpna (Import – Sweden)
Ethereal sound collages recorded on vintage tapes. The Häpna label describes this album as “music for amusement parks with neglected maintenance.”

Lou Reed — Transformer
Label: RCA (USA)
Okay, Lou Reed wanted to be David Bowie, Bowie wanted to be Lou Reed, and you probably want be the one who picks up this special Record Store Day release.

Django Django self-titled
Label: Because Music  (Import – France)
Melodic, East London electro-pop available as a limited edition double-LP with compact disc. Check out “Default” online if you haven’t heard these guys yet.

Paul Simon — Graceland
Label: Sony/Legacy (USA)
Special 25th anniversary 180 gram pressing with poster and free album download (which includes 3 bonus songs).

Roy Orbison — Lonely & Blue
Label: Doxy (Import – Italy)
This 1960 must-have kicked off a winning streak for Roy. It still holds up today and the 4 bonus tracks only make it better! On 180 gram virgin vinyl with CD version included.

The Aggregation – Mind Odyssey
Label: Sweet Dandelion (Import – UK)
First-time reissue of a super-rare LP from the psychedelic underground, dude… and apparently they played at Disneyland back in the 1960s.

The Deviants — Ptooff!
Label: Cherry Red Phonograph (Import – UK)
An early incarnation of British punk. This new release was made from the original master tapes and includes a reproduction of the 1967 poster.

Blues Creation — Demon & Eleven Children
Label: Bamboo (Import – UK)
Loud blues rock as heard in Japan circa 1971. A great gift idea for Mother’s Day.

These titles are available in VERY (gasp!) limited quantities.
For any official “Record Store Day”-only releases (besides the few we mentioned above), we would encourage you to contact our friends at the other fine record stores in town (Disc Exchange usually carries a bunch of RSD product. We would also suggest checking with Lost & Found, Raven & Hot Horse). For Record Store Day at Wild Honey, we plan to stock more new and vintage LPs than ever before! Rare stuff, cheap stuff and everything in between. Drop by anytime from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow.
